Resource Partner of the Month - City of Lakin Posted on 04/07/2010 Increasingly, cities are becoming resource partners and it is exciting to experience this surge of support from communities who are building an entrepreneurial base. Lakin, Kansas, is one of NetWork Kansas' newest partners. Motto: Opportunity meets quality in life! The city of Lakin embodies the pioneer spirit that dates from the city's foundation in 1873. Since 1894, Lakin has served as the county seat of Kearny County in Southwest Kansas. Lakin currently has a population of 2,542. As a small municipality, the city of Lakin itself has shouldered the responsibility of assisting business growth and offers a variety of services. Business in Lakin consists of the strongholds of farming, ranching, custom feeding, dairy, and oil production as well as government, education, health services, and more. The community provides a home for numerous other establishments, running the gamut from accounting and antiques to car washes, floral stores, veterinarians, and welding. Lakin boasts that they "offer the opportunities of a small town without the hassles of a large city." The Chamber of Commerce is available to assist new and existing businesses. 121 N.
