NetWork Kansas' Erik Pedersen Selected for "2010 Kansas Civic Leadership: Context and Competencies" Class
NetWork Kansas' Associate Director, Erik Pedersen, has been
selected to attend the 2010 Kansas Civic Leadership: Context and
Competencies class hosted by the Kansas Leadership Center (KLC). The
class will be held February 8-12, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas.
Founded in 2007, the Kansas Leadership Center had been funded
through an initial 10-year, $30 million investment from the Kansas
Health Foundation with aspirations to create and deliver specific
initiatives that strengthen and expand the state's civic leadership.
The Core Objectives of the KLC are to Inspire (Kansans to care more, engage more, and risk more on behalf of their communities), Educate (Kansans on how to engage more effectively) and Connect (Kansans to create strong networks).
The programs offered by the KLC help participants to:
- Work collaboratively to address existing and emerging issues in your community
- Understand your personal civic leadership attributes and how best to leverage them in pursuit of improving your community
- Recognize and address the real barriers to civic progress
- Make more progress on the issues you care most about
- Energize others about civic leadership and civic engagement
The concept of civic leadership is an important one to both the
KLC and NetWork Kansas. Building community leadership is the key to
helping Kansas communities tackle complex challenges.
KLC curriculum is based on the KLC Theory of Civic Leadership and the KLC Civic Leadership Competencies: 1) Diagnose Situations; 2)
Manage Self; 3) Facilitate Intervention; and 4) Energize Others.
Through large group sessions, small group work, peer consulting, and
individual reflection, participants develop the ability to better
harness their leadership potential and make a difference in their
communities.
As Associate Director of NetWork Kansas, Erik is responsible for
the daily affairs of the organization's Referral Center and StartUp
Kansas. Erik also works with the current E-Communities to ensure
successful implementation. Erik's work experience focuses on the
overall operation and management of fast growing businesses and
organizations.
